LUPINES
Here
in the midst of a field of
ailanthus and locust saplings, sweet
pea vines and tall grasses, six
stalks of purple lupines’ are
“on their way out.” These
flowers fed bees, their fuzzy-green seeds
prepare for next year’s plants. But
we, where do we go when
we’re gone? Haven’t we been
useful while we’re here and
some seen their children grow? Can
we now hope for more than
the lovely lupines?
